The Texas Taliban

This past week, the world watched as women in Afghanistan took to the streets as to stand up for their rights against the Taliban. This past week ,the world watched as women in the state of Texas had their rights taken away. The state of Texas passed the most restrictive abortion law in the country, and disappointingly, the Supreme court refused to block the Texas law which essentially bans all abortions. Let me repeat, the state of Texas has passed a law banning  abortion period. The newly passed law prohibits most abortions after six weeks. The law makes no exceptions. Shockingly, the law prohibits abortions even in the event of rape, or incest. The law makes some exceptions if the mother's health is at risk and or if the pregnancy could result in impairment of a bodily function. Suffice it to say, Texas has banned abortion and taken away a woman's right to choose.
"My body, my choice" . I agree. However, the rightwing anti-vaxers use "my body, my choice", as their argument for why they choose not to take the vaccine. How I ask, can rightwing conservatives refusing to take the vaccine dare say, "my body, my choice", when they are taking away a woman's right to choose to not have a child? The hypocrisy is absurd. For years I've heard the left say, "my body, my choice", as their argument for having abortions, so how ironic is it that for the past year right wing anti vaxers have been using the same line? It doesn't work that way. If the right chooses to not take the vaccine based on "my body, my choice", then those women who choose to have an abortion should also be able to say, "my body, my choice". Unfortunately,  women will not have the option of choice in Texas under the Texas Taliban.
How dare Texas take away the rights of women. What Texas has done is criminal and I question whether the law is constitutional. While I have always been a right wing pro lifer, I have always been of the opinion that the decision to end a pregnancy was not always black, and or white. I certainly understood the choice to abort a child in the case of rape or incest. To force a woman to have a child that was the result of her being raped is absolutely criminal. It is vile and no woman should ever be forced to do such a thing. Equally as bad, is a child born out of an incestuous relationship. The law makes the Texas constituents no better than the Taliban, and the law I fear will cause women to take their own lives as to avoid being forced to have an unwanted child that was conceived out of an unpleasant incident.
"My body, my choice", the anti vaxers exclaim. "My body, my choice", women across America choosing to end their pregnancy's exclaim. Both sides are correct, and that being said, neither side can use that phrase for their argument and not the other. I'm a conservative. I'm still a pro lifer. I don't believe in using abortion as a form of birth control ,and I don't agree with late term and partial birth abortions. However, this is America, not Afghanistan, and women here in America have fought for their right to vote , their right to work, and excel in the workplace and their right to choose. It is shameful that Texas has pushed women back almost 50 years. The Texas Taliban may well have won this past week and the repercussions  will be tragic. Tragic for the women forced to have unwanted babies and tragic for the children born to mothers who didn't want them. "My body, my choice", the anti vaxers exclaim. Yes Texas. "My body, my choice".
